Based on the Chinese Medicine Internal Medicine program, the national key discipline of GuangzhouUniversity of Chinese Medicine, Lingnan Medical Research Center focuses on Lingnan Medicine, aiming to improvethecurative effect on specific advantageous diseases by Lingnan Medicine.
1.Brief introduction of Chinese Medicine Internal Medicine
The Chinese Medicine Internal Medicine discipline ofGuangzhou University of Chinese Medicinewas rated asthe national key disciplinein 1989 and thereafter in the“211 Project”in 1997, it was included into“the key discipline construction planning”organized by State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Guangdong Province. In 2002, this discipline was awarded as the national key discipline again after the review of Ministry of Education. On the basis of being accepted as the excellent discipline in the Ninth Five-Year Plan and211Projectevaluation from 1998 to 2002, Chinese Medicine Internal Medicine program goes into the construction phase as the key discipline in the Tenth Five-Year Plan and 211Project during2003 to 2005.In March 2006, subproject of Chinese Medicine Internal Medicine goes through the acceptance test of experts for the Tenth Five-Year Plan and211Project withan excellent score. In 2007, this discipline passed the acceptance test of the Ministry of Education for the thirdtime,becoming the national key discipline again. At the same year, discipline of Chinese Medicine of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine was named the national first-level key discipline. As the major component of Chinese Medicine, Chinese Medicine Internal Medicine plays an important role in the rating.In 2009, Chinese Medicine Internal Medicine in Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine had become one of the important research directionsin thethird-phase project construction of 211 Project of Guangdong Province. After that, in 2010, it was selected into the construction project of feature key discipline funded by CentralGovernment.In 2015, Chinese Medicine discipline ofGuangzhouUniversity of Chinese Medicine was selected into the High Level University Construction Projectof GuangdongProvince and Chinese Medicine Internal Medicine is an important part of it.
As the important base of talents’cultivation, scientificresearch and medical service in southern China on Chinese Medicine Internal Medicine, this discipline significantly promotestheability for frontier research, major nationalresearchproject and international cooperation. In terms of academic research levelandachievement, social contribution and talent cultivation, the discipline has reached the leading level in the same category in China and some researches are close to the international advanced level, which has great academic influence home and abroad.
2. Brief introduction of discipline leader
The leader of national key discipline of Chinese Medicine Internal Medicine is Mr. XIAN Shaoxiang, chief physician, famous Chinese Medicine doctor in Guangdong Province, the Pearl River Scholar and Distinguished Professor, the Dean of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, doctoral supervisor on Chinese Medicine Internal Medicine, postdoctoral mentor, enjoying the special allowance from the State Council, who is also the winner of Ding Ying Award for Science of Guangdong Province and given the title as the outstanding contribution middle aged expert by National Health and Family Planning Commission of People’s Republic of China.
Mr. XIAN Shaoxiang is the leader of cardiovascular medicine of
key specialty of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, member of appraisal group of academic degree committee of State Council and Guangdong Province, member of expert committee of Chinese Medicine Key Discipline Construction Experts’Commission of State Administration of TCM, evaluating expert of Natural Science Foundation of China, Chairman of Famous Doctor’s Experience Inheritance Committee of World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies, Vice-chair of Internal Medicine Branch of China Association of Chinese Medicine, Vice-chair of Cardiovascular Branch of China Association of Chinese Medicine, Chairman of the Internal Medicine Specialty Committee of Guangdong Province Association of Chinese Medicine, ect. .
Mr. XIAN Shaoxiang has been engaged in medicine, teaching and research for more than 30 years. His research direction is prevention and cure of cardiovascular disease with TCM, which has gained great achievements on basis and clinical research of prevention and cure for heart failure with TCM. His Research achievements have gained the first prize of the science and technology progress award of China Association of Chinese Medicine, the first prize of the science and technology progress award of the Ministry of Education, the second prize of the science and technology progress award of People's Government of Guangdong Province and other 6 prizes in different class. He hosted and mainly took part in more than 20 provincial class research projects such as the research project of Natural Science Foundation of China and has published more than 160 academic papers home and abroad. He has edited or partial edited 16 monographs and his representative works areResearch on Modern Internal MedicineandThe Basis and Clinic of Integration of Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine for Heart Failure ect. .Mr. XIAN Shaoxiang has cultivated over 50 students in postdoctoral, doctoral and master level.
3. Space and Equipment
Chinese Medicine Internal MedicineLaboratoryofLingnan Medical Research Centerwas located in the five floor national key discipline laboratory building in Sanyuanli campus of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, with an area of 1015.2 square meter. And the gross value of the equipment is more than 10 million Yuan.
4. Talents team
The laboratory possesses a high level academic, innovative and reasonable structural team. Among all the staff, one of them is the Pearl River Scholar and Distinguished Professor, one is national cultivating talents in 1000 talents training project, four are Xinglin Lecture Professor and one is the Xingling Youth Scholar and ect. .
5. Research direction
Main research directions include :①prevention and cure of TCM for chronic heart failure②The basis and clinic and prescription research on spleen and stomach disease of TCM③Research on Mechanism and Material Basis of Medicine in Southern China for preventing and curing internal disease④Research on Preparation of TCM and new drug innovation on Internal Disease⑤Research on exploring and inheriting the academic thoughts and clinical experiences of famous internal medicine doctors in Southern China.
6.Brief introduction of scientific research projects and achievements
In the past five years, the laboratory undertook 15 national research projects, 48 provincial research projects with the total research fund of more than 27 million Yuan, publishing over 30 SCI papers and more than 20 teaching materials. The laboratory also gain the first prize and the second prize of science and technology progress prize of Ministry of Education, two second prize of science and technology progress prize of Guangdong Province, one first prize and one second prize and one third prize of science and technology progress prize of China Association of Chinese Medicine. The laboratory emphasized on developing new drug and two kinds of new drugs Changjian capsule and Wennan Slice have gained the permission of clinical test.
7. Talents cultivation and latent team construction
The laboratory attach importance to talents cultivation and talent team construction. In the past five years, the laboratory had successfully cultivated more than 100 doctoral graduate students and over 300 master graduate students. About three to five students will be selected to overseas famous university to carry out the science research. In order to improve the integrative competence, the laboratory introduced four Xinglin lecture professors, two Xinlin distinguishedscholar,two Xinglin youth scholar and assigned five excellent staff to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and other overseas famous universities to carry out their research. Focusing on research direction, laboratory insist on the open and collaborative innovation operating mechanism, combining the basis with clinic, establishing and introducing research team. Now, the laboratory has possessed two science and technology innovation teams.
8. International cooperation
In order to enhance the international cooperation, the laboratory has developed in-depth international exchange and cooperation with foreign famous universities such as The university of Michigan, The Mayo clinic, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, The Georgia school of medicine ans so on in the area of cardiovascular disease, stem cells and allergic asthma and etc..
